“Sonic memories from the north” is a project about the sound of a place. It is an exploration of how field-recordings of a place can be made into music and how a single instrument (the cello) can interact and improvise with these sounds. It is also very much a project about memory; about the way we remember sound and place. The first stage of the project will be performed as part of Manchester jazz festivals hothouse scheme in December 2017. The final outcome of the project will be a visual and sonic portrait of 6 places across the north of England. It will be a playful piece for cello, electronics and visuals celebrating the everyday life of the north.
