Norwegian Cellist and Composer Maja Bugge returns to Manchester Jazz Festival with SORTLAND, a new collaboration with pianist Dave Evans and film-maker Adam York Gregory.

SORTLAND is a meditative portrait of Maja’s home city, the ‘blue town’ situated 68 degrees north above the arctic circle. The work fuses evocative melodies, riffs and grooves inspired by this environment with a specially made backdrop of image and video. Together these elements make a playful and gentle audio visual homage to place, sound and memory.

“It is captivating to observe Bugge improvising with her surroundings”
